22 days away from PUMPKIN SEASON! The pumpkin vines are lush and beautiful, covering the pumpkins beneath them. At the first sign of a cold night, the vines start to wilt, leaving no cover for the pumpkins. Just like that, all the beautiful colors become visible. For now, we’ll enjoy the blanket of pumpkin vines.

Years ago, Luisa worked with our family, and she quickly became such a special and beloved person in our lives. She moved back to Mexico 18 years and we haven’t seen her since but just a few weeks ago, we had the incredible opportunity to visit her. We surprised her, and the reunion was filled with so much joy, laughter, and happy tears. It was a deeply moving experience—one that touched all of our hearts and reminded us of the strong connection we still share despite all the years apart. Yesterday was her birthday, and I couldn’t help but reflect on how much she means to us and how grateful we are for the chance to reconnect with her after all this time. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LUISA!! WE LOVE YOU!

Duckling hatched at the farm. She is so darn cute!

Today, we moved cattle from one pasture to another. This is one of the tools we use to foster a symbiotic relationship between the land and cattle—mutually beneficial for both. We started early this morning, before sunrise, to get ahead of the heat and move the cattle during the coolest part of the day.
**Busting a myth!**
**FACT:** Mortimer Farms grows every ear of sweet corn! This year marks our 14th sweet corn season, a crop that has truly made us famous. Why all the emphasis on “SWEET”? Because the hybrid variety we grow is so incredibly sweet, you can eat it raw! Our corn features a perfect mix of tender white and yellow kernels, celebrated as one of the sweetest and most tender varieties ever developed. Come celebrate this delectable sweet corn with us at the Watermelon and Sweet Corn Festival next weekend, both Saturday and Sunday. Join us for a taste of sweetness! During this festival you will have the opportunity to go on a special tour to the sweet corn field and learn about harvesting sweet corn. Will a few of you be brave enough to try a raw ear of sweet corn?

*** NO SMOKING ALERT *** When tobacco pathogens come into contact with tomatoes, the tobacco mosaic virus can form. This virus seriously affects a wide variety of plants, including tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and spinach. It spreads easily through soil, plant debris, clothing, hands, and tobacco products, and once it’s present, it can devastate our crops, leading to poor-quality fruit and lower yields and can wipe out the entire crop.
That’s why we kindly remind everyone to avoid smoking anywhere on the farm. If you do use tobacco, please make sure to wash your hands thoroughly before touching any plants to help protect our crops from this harmful virus.
We appreciate your help in keeping the farm healthy and thriving!

It's sweet corn season!

Today this view brings peace to my soul. On the tough days, I make it a point to look up and find gratitude for the privilege of being part of the farm community. There are many rewarding aspects to our work, but they are often met with significant challenges. On those days, it’s crucial to look outward and focus on the good—on the privilege of being caretakers of this beautiful land, animals, and on feeding the community. It’s essential to remember that some things are beyond our control and to seek peace, understanding, and the will to continue from a higher power. What we do is more than a job—it is a passion, a way of life, a calling.

Connecting your Family to your food!
The Heart of Mortimer Farms
We believe in being stewards of this planet and its resources. We believe in practicing smart and sustainable farming techniques. We believe that community and connection are at the heart of a good life. We believe in extending kindness, thoughtfulness, and hospitality to all we meet. We believe in embracing change and improving daily. We believe that experiences are far more valuable than things and that spending quality time together is the very best way to spend our time. We believe in discovering beauty, marveling in it, and savoring every moment.
We believe in preserving and honoring the importance of agriculture. We believe that as we share our story, we are also sharing the story of Arizona and American agriculture. We believe food is the thing that connects us all. We believe it’s time for the pendulum to swing back to the basics of slow food, shopping local, scratch cooking, gathering together, and buying directly from the farmer. We believe in “connecting your family to your food”.
This is the heart behind Mortimer Farms and the principles that drive us in all that we do.
