...the Beyond the Barbwire Blog.

The blog is making a comeback!

I was watching a fellow Instagrammer's stories the other day. She talked about not going to the dentist in over four and a half years. It was a public service announcement to go to the dentist. This got me thinking about our Beyond the Barbwire Blog. I haven't published a blog post since 2019. Time got away from me, I guess. This blog post is my commitment to you to publish blog posts. To start, let's get you up to speed.

Five development projects started in May within a mile of Mortimer Farms. Driving past brings a flood of emotions. Emotions showing how grateful we are that our farm was saved from development early this year. A few short months ago, this was not guaranteed as we leased the farm from a development group. By nothing short of a miracle, the Mortimer family was able to purchase the farm.

Along with our fantastic team and our supportive community, we are overjoyed that the land once marked for development will be a FARM for generations to come! What a blessing! What a blessing to grow food for our community! What a blessing to care for the environment and safeguard natural resources! What a blessing to connect your family to your food.

With this news, we received a flood of support. For that, we are beyond thankful! This news has also given us new eyes. Now every project we meet, we meet with excitement for the future.

The year 2021 has already shown to be a year full of excitement. Spring was filled with births and baby animals, spring weddings, preparing the soil for planting, installing a new irrigation system called pivot irrigation, and of course, planting. And now, harvesting strawberries and lettuce.

Our most popular newborn is Wrangler the kid goat. This is 3 day old Wrangler.
And now, he is 2 months old.

Two years ago, the Beyond the Barbwire Blog was one of our ways to answer your questions about how your food is grown in America, in Arizona, and right here at Mortimer Farms. This purpose will continue. The mission behind everything we do at Mortimer Farms is connecting your family to your food. A mission that allows us to grow and raise food for the community and welcome the public to hear the story of the food on your table.

We are looking forward to highlighting this mission here on the blog and connecting with your family. Beyond this blog, we look forward to seeing your family at the farm to create memories, hear the story of your food, enjoy a real working farm, and make family traditions! We are so glad to share our farm with you!

As our blog makes a comeback, we ask that you share what you would like to see on this blog. What questions do you have about where your food comes from? What questions do you have about Mortimer Farms? What questions do you have about those who grow and raise your food? Please submit your responses in the comments below, to us at mortimerfarmsaz@gmail.com or on social media. Here is to "connecting your family to your food" for generations to come.
